Subjection in Praha

Description

I saw a lot of people that wandered the streets and "begged" when I visited Praha, it was one of the things people didn't seem to care about at all.

They would bend forward and lay still for hours at end, saying nothing, doing nothing, and people would just walk by like nothing was abnormal

Well here's the thing. Yes, you probably saw lots of them because as a tourist you visited mainly centre of Prague. I can tell this photo was taken in the street leading from Old Town Square to Charles Bridge, am I right? Thats where most of them concentrate because they know thats where you get the most money as there is a continuous flow of tourists throughout the day. They have a strategy, they mostly work in groups and take turns in begging. Believe me, they can make pretty good money in a day, but they mostly spend it on meth and cheap wine. Lots of them don't beg because they have no other choice. Most of them like the way they live.

For example, few days ago I was sitting on a bench next to this miserable looking guy in a city centre. He asked me for a cigarette. Shortly after even more miserable looking guy joined him with the bottle of cheap wine. Wonder what they talked about? The first guy was showing him lastest HTC model he bought the other day... just imagine - this dirty, smelly homeless dude actually had much better phone in his pocket than I did. (Not that it is a measure of anything...)

All I am saying is: not everything is as it seems at first sight.  I don't judge these people for the way they live. I acutally admire them for the fact that they have balls to live as freely as they do and often envy them and wish I could be like that and not give a f*ck as much as they do(n't). Just don't get sentimental when you see scenes like this. They certainly don't view themselves as a social cases. They live their lives in a constant state of intoxication and they f*cking love it :-)
